El profesor del Instituto masculino neozelandés Palmerston North Boys'High School, Dawson Tamatea, falleció por causas naturales después de treinta años dando clase en el colegio, donde dejó huella a sus alumnos. Alrededor de 1.700 de sus pupilos homenajearon al docente el día de su entierro de una forma muy especial, con una Haka, que ya acumula más de un millón y medio de vistas en Youtube.
Dawson Tamatea, muerto a los 55 años, dió clase de matemáticas y educación física.
Dear Parents,
Regrettably this morning I write to advise our school community of the tragic passing of Mr Dawson Tamatea, a long serving staff member, who died in his sleep overnight. Mr Tamatea’s long association with Palmerston North Boys’ High School began in 1986 when he joined the teaching staff. In 2015 he was the Dean of Maori Student Achievement and the teacher in charge of the Gateway programme. Previous to this he was the Head of Te Reo Maori, was a long serving ...teacher of Physical Education and Mathematics and has been involved with a range of co-curricular activities including the Premier A Tennis team, Te Piringa and Super 8 kapa haka, basketball, softball and the famous Anaura Bay year 10 camp. Consequently, he is very well known amongst our school community, and amongst the wider Palmerston North community.
We are very conscious that Mr Tamatea’s passing will be difficult for many young men with whom he has had a close association as either a teacher, coach, manager or camp leader, as well as for many of our teachers who have known him for a long period of time. Young men who need support will be offered this through Mr Adams, the Guidance Counsellor, and Mr Kendal, the Head of Te Reo Maori. Should you have concerns regarding the effect of Mr Tamatea’s passing on your son please contact Mr Adams at school.
We will advise the school community of details of the memorial service for Mr Tamatea once these are confirmed by his family and we ask that your thoughts are with them at this difficult time.
